Our materials
Back in 2019 Farah made the decision to reduce our impact on the health of the planet. A massive undertaking, we began by reviewing our materials.
Cotton farming and its production is extremely water intensive. In addition, the chemicals used have a significant impact on carbon emissions. Polyester and nylon are created from petrochemicals, also energy intensive to produce.
With a significant portion of our collection made from cotton, the first change we adopted was to switch our core collection - and many of our seasonal lines - to certified organic cotton which means using less water and no pesticides. We remain committed to exploring ways to overcome these challenges, working with our mills and suppliers, as well as looking at other alternative solutions.
In 2020, we started to address other materials we frequently use. As a result, we’ve switched to using certified recycled polyester and nylon wherever possible. Our swimwear collection now contains recycled materials and we’ve started to incorporate recycled materials across outerwear, too.
