FARAH X MARTIN PARR

Discuss icons of British photography, and it’s likely that the work of Martin Parr will be included in the same breath. Born in Surrey, England in 1965 – Parr is known for his photographic projects that take a satirical look at British life and mainline culture.

Always anthropological in their approach, Parr’s images capture suburban landscapes and characters from a broad class spectrum. Quintessential seasides awash with colour play stage to sun-seekers and excitable youth; marred with rainy grey days and fish and chips in the local bus shelter. This is that innate communal ‘Britishness’ that quietly defines our daily lives.

For his latest project, Parr lends his lens to Farah – a label equally steeped in suburban narrative, the golden ‘F’ a proud symbol of this inclusive, communal spirit. Partnering together, both Parr and Farah examine this common ground in a series of photographs, shot by Parr mid-March in the coastal town of Broadstairs, East Kent.

The collection itself encompasses all things holiday with fun floral prints, bright stripes and bold colours. Parr utilises the towns traditional tourist sights to bring the collection to life. Comprised of tees, shirts, shorts and swimwear the collection will have you set for summer.

‘The Great British Seaside’ exhibition taking place at The National Maritime Museum (23rd of March - 30th of September) features more of Parr’s work and is a must see for the summer months.
